Scholastic
Bowl is an academic
competition played
between two teams
consisting of five
players each. The teams
answer questions as both
individuals and a team
to gain points. The
object of the game is to
have more points than
the other team after two
12 minute halves or 25
toss-up questions. There
are two types of
questions: Toss-ups and
bonus.
Toss-up
questions are asked to
all the players on both
teams. The players have
10 seconds to buzz in
and correctly answer the
question. The team that
the player who correctly
answers is from gets 10
points. They now have
control over the bonus
question. Bonus
questions are multiple
parts and worth a total
of 20 points. Normally
they consist of 4 parts
worth 5 points
each.
The
moderator reads the
question to both teams
who have 30 seconds to
convene with each other
and determine the
answers. After the 30
seconds, or the captain
of the team who has
control calls time, the
controlling team
answers. Any answers
they do not get right
can then be answered by
the other team. After
the bonus, another
toss-up is asked. Play
continues in the same
way, with a bonus
following every
successfully answered
toss-up.
